Sony Playstation PS5 Slim Review — Slimmer, Sleeker but is it Better

4.7 Out Of 5 Star Reviews On Amazon

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Let’s be honest, the original PS5 was a beast in many ways. The performance, graphics and its sheer size alone were solely captivating at launch. If you held off because of its large footprint, you were right to. The new refined Sony PS5 Slim is the answer to your prayers. Sony have managed to pack its next-gen gaming power into a sleeker, lighter console for our gaming pleasure. Lets dive in and see if they did it without sacrificing what made the PS5 so good to begin with. Whether you’re a casual gamer or an FPS fanatic the PS5 Slim should still deliver everything that matters.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Compact and lighter than the original PS5 — easier to fit in tighter spaces
  • Ultra-fast SSD for near-instant load times
  • Ray tracing + 4K resolution support for stunning graphics
  • DualSense wireless controller with adaptive triggers and haptics
  • Comes in both disc and digital editions
  • Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.1 for better wireless performance

The Performance & Handling

Booting up the PS5 Slim feels just as impressive as the original, just in a smaller, more living-room-friendly package. The design is more compact and modern than its predecessor but it still packs all the power. I found the new UI to be much smoother when switching between media content & the gaming interface.

You still get that next-gen SSD speed, meaning games load fast, levels transition smoothly, and everything is still snappy. Paired with the stunning ray-trace lighting and 4K visuals, it makes newer titles feel very immersive.

The DualSense controllers continue to standout with responsive triggers and realistic haptic feedback that make gameplay feel more realistic. Bare in mind that haptic feedback can strain fingers and hands during longer gaming sessions. Now squeezing the triggers with your favourite guns or feeling the throttle during an intense race has never felt so immersive. Overall I found the haptic feedback impressive and enjoy using it during games on medium strength.

The Pros

  • Sleek and much smaller than the launch model
  • Same powerful performance as the original PS5
  • Still supports full PS5 + PS4 game library (Digital games only)
  • DualSense controller is incredibly immersive
  • Digital and disc options available
  • Cooler and quieter operation than earlier models
  • Disc drive is available separately as a plug & play accessory (PS5 Slim Disc Drive)

The Cons

  • Only 1TB SSD — can fill up quickly with big games “Only 843TB usable”
  • Disc edition is slightly thicker and pricier
  • No major spec upgrade — just a slimmer form factor
  • External USB hard drives can’t run PS5 games – only useful for PS4 titles or cold storage

Our Expert Verdict – TechReviewsUK

The PS5 Slim is the PlayStation 5 we always wanted it to be. Its still powerful but quieter and finally a better fit for your gaming room setup. If you haven’t made the next-gen leap yet, this is absolutely a great time. With the same power in a more compact shell, Sony has made one of the best consoles of this generation even better.

I remember when I first opened the original PS5, I was excited but overwhelmed by its mighty size. I remember thinking this isn’t going to fit in or on the tv cabinet. Now Sony has streamlined, made minor improvements but retained the same great power, performance and graphics.
