ROUND 1: Processor Punch-Up (N97 vs N95)
Both chips are from Intel’s Alder Lake-N family and designed for efficiency. The Intel Processor N97 (ACEMAGIC) is a significantly more capable chip than the N95 (DMDFJY). The N97 chip features a higher Max Turbo Frequency of 3.60 GHz vs the N95’s 3.40 GHz and typically includes a more powerful Intel UHD Graphics with 24 Execution Units (EUs).
During our testing the ACEMAGIC with the N97 chip felt noticeably snappier and more responsive. Opening apps was quicker, web pages load faster and light multitasking was handled with greater ease. While neither is a powerhouse the N97 pushes the boundaries of acceptable for basic Windows 11 use, much further than the N95. The N97 maintains stable performance under pressure while the N95 in comparison starts to falter and fall behind.
ROUND 2: RAM & Multitasking
Both laptops come equipped with a commendable 16GB of DDR4/LPDDR4 RAM. Great news for budget Windows 11 laptops, there’s more than enough power for everyday tasks like browsing, writing and streaming. Both handled our multitasking tests well within the limits of their respective processors, ensuring RAM isn’t the primary bottleneck. No complaints here, a solid foundation from both machines.
ROUND 3: Storage & Expandability
Both the ACEMAGIC and the DMDFJY feature a 512GB SSD. This is the bare minimum we’d recommend for a Windows 11 laptop and it’s excellent to see it as standard here. SSDs ensure fast boot times and responsive application loading, a massive upgrade over older eMMC storage. While 512GB can fill up, it’s a good starting point for users relying on cloud storage or occasional external drives. Neither laptop advertises additional M.2 expansion slots, so what you see is what you get for internal storage.

ROUND 4: Display & Visuals
Both laptops sport a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS display. As expected in this price bracket, these are perfectly decent displays. You’ll get decent sharpness for text and images, IPS technology ensures respectable viewing angles so colors won’t invert when you move seats. Its important to mention that neither will wow you with vibrant colours, deep blacks or eye-searing brightness. They are good enough for consuming content and basic productivity but don’t expect a premium visual experience.
ROUND 5: Build, Keyboard & Trackpad Torture Test
Both machines are budget laptops and that means plastic construction with some flex in the chassis and noticeable flex in the lids. The build quality on both is adequate but nothing to write home about.
The DMDFJY comes equipped with two premium features, a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard. The fingerprint reader offers quick and secure logins, a certified luxury at this price. The back lit keyboard, while often dim on budget machines is indispensable for working in low-light conditions. These are tangible, value-adding features the ACEMAGIC simply cannot compete with.
The keyboards on both have shallow travel and a slightly mushy feel, but are usable. The trackpads are again usable but we recommend purchasing a mouse for speed and precision. Webcams? Prepare for disappointment because both offer grainy, low-resolution video, fine for a quick casual call but unsuitable for professional use.
ROUND 6: Battery Life & Software Perks
In our standard web-browsing battery test (70% brightness with continuous Wi-Fi browsing) the ACEMAGIC lasted approximately 3 hours 46minutes. Putting the DMDFJY through the same test it clocked in at around 3 hours 18 minutes. A negligible difference, both offering enough juice for a few hours away from a charger but neither last a full day.
While many users won’t utilise Windows 11 Pro features like BitLocker encryption or Remote Desktop, it’s still an upgrade over Windows 11 Home. Windows 11 pro adds inherent value for power users or those in need of more advanced capabilities.

Are any of these laptops good for students?
For basic student needs like web browsing, writing essays, using Google Docs, Microsoft Office and watching lectures – yes they are functional. The ACEMAGIC with the better performance is a more comfortable choice for daily student use. For demanding courses or specialised software you’d need to step up in performance significantly.

Yes, 16GB RAM is a very good amount for Windows 11, for basic to moderate use. It provides ample headroom for multitasking and ensures the OS runs smoothly without being constantly bottlenecked by insufficient memory.
How do these cheap laptops compare to a Chromebook of similar price?
Chromebooks often offer a smoother, faster experience at similar price points due to their lighter operating system. Typically they are limited to web-based and Android apps.
